I don’t want to be abrupt or rude, but if you or someone you love is in pain, please don’t wait – just call MSK Doctors or visit their website, and book an appointment.
They’ll get you in to see a specialist a lot sooner than you might think, because they don’t believe in waiting lists, and they never require referrals.
In fact, that’s what this blog is all about – their fast access, no referral needed service, and how you can use it to access some of the most innovative new surgical techniques available.
Specifically, I want to talk about the SPAIRE technique, a new way to do a total hip replacement, that’s better in pretty much every way.
If you need to make an appointment, you can do it from their website at http://mskdoctors.com/ – just click “Book Online” in the top right.
Now that’s out of the way, I want to tell you a bit about the SPAIRE BIKINI technique, what makes it better than the traditional option, and why I picked this clinic specifically.
In fact, let’s start with the last one – why MSK Doctors, out of all the clinics?
To put it simply, it’s because that’s where Prof. Paul Lee works. He’s the founder of the MSK Doctors clinic, and one of the few specialists currently offering the SPAIRE hip replacement technique, which if you hadn’t already guessed, is not available yet through the NHS.
Now, that’s not a complaint – this technique will almost certainly become the standard option with the NHS, but it’s going to take a bit of time. They have a lot of surgeons that need re-training first before it can become the norm.
Why do I think it will become the standard option? Well, the short answer is that it’s better in just about every way, but let’s break that down a little bit.
The biggest difference is that the SPAIRE technique “spares” some of your important muscles and tendons. Normally, when getting your hip replaced, there’s no way to prevent a significant amount of damage to your abductor complex, and both gemelli, obturator internus, and piriformis tendons (quadriceps coxae).
It’s okay if you don’t recognize the technical terms, basically, it means that Prof. Lee can do a full hip replacement, without causing major damage to several of the really important muscles and tendons you use to move your hips and legs. This is important, because it will have a drastic effect on your recovery.
How drastic? Well, the first thing you’ll notice is that when you leave the operating room, they won’t give you a list of mobility restrictions.
Normally, after getting your hip replaced, you would have to be very careful about how you move, and make sure that you don’t bend too far. With the SPAIRE technique though, you don’t have to worry about any of that.
Because all of those important muscles and tendons are still intact, you can move pretty much however you want. It also means that there’s less damage to heal, so your recovery should go a lot faster – and you’re much less likely accidentally dislocate your hip during the healing process.
Of course, I can understand if you’re a bit nervous about a “new” surgical technique, so let’s talk about that. While the SPAIRE technique is relatively new, it has been researched, tested, and improved at the world-renowned Exeter Hip Unit, and has been in practical use for several years.
In his time at the Exter Hip Unit, Prof. Lee worked closely with Professor Timperley to perfect this new technique, and to write several papers on the improvements offered by the SPAIRE method. It’s been so successful, that this method is now the routine practice at MSK Doctors for all total hip replacements because it provides the most effective results while causing a minimal amount of surgical trauma.
It’s your hip, and your health, so the choice is yours – but I wouldn’t recommend anyone or anywhere else.
Just remember that you can set up your own appointments at any time, either online or over the phone.
The MSK Doctors clinic can even help you to get fast access to diagnostic scans, like X-rays. In fact, through partnerships with several other specialist clinics, they can even get you into the county’s only Open MRI scanner, with absolutely no waiting list.
It’s amazing how fast and convenient medical care can be, when there’s no waiting list, and no referral required.
Of course, you do still have to book an appointment, but that’s easy at http://mskdoctors.com/
