Want to learn a new skill this year? Fancy trying your hand at making paper?
Book yourself into ‘Handmade Paper – A Hands-On Introduction‘ – just one of the fun artisan craft courses available at The Real English Country House – a family-run guest house and arts centre based in Worcestershire. More details at https://therealenglishcountryhouse.com/
All classes are held in the workshops and beautiful grounds of The Real English Country House and are run by expert craft practitioners. Take this great opportunity to learn new skills while forging new friendships and interests!
Exploration & Practice
Led by self-taught papermaker Jemma, the Handmade paper-making course is a full day of exploration and practice, incorporating the designing, pulping, pulling, and pressing phases of sheet making. You get to create and leave with functional sheaves, with all of the necessary materials included in the course price.
“This will be a relaxed full day, not rushed, with plenty of time on each activity,” Jemma says. “Book-ended by topics of discussion and thought, you will be pulling your own papers throughout the day, and creating handmade paper gifts in the afternoon.”
Recycled Materials
Jemma uses waste products from the floral industry to create her workshop materials in keeping with the eco-friendly ethos of The Real English Country House. She points out that paper-making is an enriching, tactile, and sensory experience that can be hard to find in today’s increasingly digital world. Time to recharge your creative batteries?
Inclusive Environment
The paper-making workshops are suitable for all ages while the grounds and facilities of the house have been designed to accommodate wheelchair users, people with limited mobility, and seniors.
What’s Included?
The course costs £140 which includes a minimum of ten sheets of individually designed handmade papers to take home, access to a wide range of natural and floral pulps, and an opportunity to purchase the mould and deckle at a discounted rate to continue your papermaking journey. You also take home a notebook and a bouquet card or cone created during the workshop.
Jemma adds, “This is not intended to teach the ins and outs of the traditional paper-making techniques and historical expertise in one day, but rather to allow you to start your own journey, whilst the materials are provided for you to explore creating something tangible and meaningful.”
Course Recognition
Jemma has been awarded the Bronze Students Choice Award which recognises providers for their efforts in the teaching and practice of UK crafts. The papermaking course has received multiple five-star reviews from previous attendees. Find out for yourself why this class is such a hit!
